Popularity of Tennis in Czech

2014-06-10 source own
Tennis is a leading growth sport in the Czech republic with the recent success of its current professionals one of the major reasons for growth of the Sport as well as the Czech republics golden past of producing global Tennis stars .

Currently the Czech national tennis team is the twice consecutive champion in Davis Cup. In 2012, in the final against Spain, Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek single-handedly defeated the Spaniards David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro, 3-2 being the overall score. It was the second Davis cup title, first since 1980. The unused players in that tie was Lukas Rosol, another great player by the Czech school of tennis.

To show that this result was not a coincidence, the Czech Davis cup team managed to defend the title for the 2013 season as well. Pretty much the same team, this time defeated the Serbian Davis cup time. Unlike in 2012, when Nadal missed the final, Serbian best tennis player, Novak Djokovic, was very much available. But the Stepanek & Berdych combination was once again unbeatable, winning the deciding point in the double match against Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic. A great combination of players, that very much fill each other place, will be a real threat to the 2014 Davis cup as well.

Besides a great Davis Cup success in recent years, Czech tennis is in constant growth. Tomas Berdych is currently the sixth player on ATP list. Although he never won a Grand Slam title, his record on these tournaments is not bad at all. In 2010, he reached the finals of Wimbledon, losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. Berdych managed to reach the semi finals on Australian Open and US Open as well, but could not go to the finals. He is considered a versatile player, but hard court and grass is considered his strongest turf.

Czech tennis is constantly in improvement and there are plenty of players that play a background role that is not getting the recognition. Czech player Lukas Rosol caused one of the biggest upsets in the history of Grand Slam, when he eliminated Rafael Nadal in Wimbledon in the second round. It was then when he showed us, that Czech tennis very much can justify an investment and deliver results.
Since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, Czech Republic inherited the results of this great nation. But as Czech tennis develops they have formed a impressive history of their own. And generally speaking, the history is relatively young and there are many more Berdych’s or Stepanek’s to come.

The growth in tennis popularity is not only due to the current players as Czech has quite a strong history in Tennis by arguably having the greatest female tennis player ever Martina Navratilova or some might contest this and consider this honor to go to Germany’s Steffi Graf.  Ivan Lendl another Czech citizen is 9th on the all time male list of greatest ever men's tennis players winning 8 Grand Slams throughout the 1980s and taking part in 19 appearances in the finals.

Over all Tennis in the Czech Republic is growing so offerers great opportunities for Tennis equipment suppliers looking to develop this market, but it's important to find the best qualified local partner/distributors in Czech with a strong dealer network to reach there full potential in this growing Tennis market.
