More retail floorspace for CEE countries
2016-08-16
source own
As of the beginning of 2016, there is said to be a total of 3.7 million square meters of retail floorspace in the CEE region with three countries claiming the majority. Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary are said to be responsible for two-thirds of stock in the region and have the largest retail parks.
Even though the total amount increased, the growth was actually a lot smaller in 2015 than the previous year; 2015 saw 130,000 square meters of new floorspace which is half of 2014 figures. Hungary, Poland, and Serbia added the most amount of this space, accounting for three-quarters of the total space added. The Aviv Park Zrenjanin in Serbia and the Family Centre in Hungary proved to be the biggest additions with 22,000 square meters and 11,500 square meters respectively.
It was noted that the reduction in new floorspace added was likely to be down to the removal of Sunday closing regulation. Many developments were held back and there are currently no developments set for 2016/17 whatsoever.
