Berghaus, the Pentland-owned brand of outdoor equipment, has decided to enroll in the bluesign standard, the Swiss concept of defining eco-responsible supply chains. The UK organization states that this move contributes to its sustainability program, which entails avoiding harmful ingredients within the supply chain, and increasing partnership with ecologically responsible suppliers. Based on Berghaus’ own information, the British brand name is the first in the UK to have its initiatives accepted by the Swiss company.

It is said that the manufacturing of textiles represents some 20% of global water pollution. Berghaus itself revealed that it managed, in 2014, to decrease its use of water for woven products by 89%, in comparison to typical techniques, as a result of a new coloring technology.
