Budapest bike sharing system used more than 800,000 times in first year

Budapestʼs bike sharing system, BuBi, was used 815,000 times in its first year of operation, the head of the Budapest Public Transport Centre (BKK) said on Tuesday, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
Approximately 22,000 people are registered users of the system, said Kálmán Dabóczi. BKK has no knowledge of any accidents involving the systemʼs users, he added.
The system, dubbed "MOL BuBi", for Hungarian oil and gas company MOL, which set it up, has 1,150 bicycles with 2,109 spaces to park them at 96 docking stations.
Users ride the bicycles for 15 minutes a trip, on average.
BKK to expand Budapest bike-sharing system
Hungary’s Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) began the expansion of its bike-sharing system in Budapest dubbed "MOL BuBi", BBK said on Friday.
BKK expects to expand the service with the addition of 22 new docking stations and 50 bicycles as of this spring. The development is funded with the HUF 180 mln indemnity collected last year for the late launch of the system, BBK said.
