Participation in outdoor sports activities in Central Europe increased by nearly 18% in 2021 when compare to 2019 this was due to an upward trend which the sector has experience over the last 10 years as well as the covid effect. COVID has only accelerated the trend throughout 2020 and 2021 for people using the outdoors as a way of staying fit and healthy.Poland experienced the largest increase in people taking part in outdoor leisure and sports activities with 27% and Czech second with a 25% increase in activities between 2020 and 2021. The biggest outdoor sporting sectors that experience growth was hiking and mountaineering followed by cycling, Fishing and Hunting, Nordic walking, running (including trail running) the only sector that struggled was Golf and the winter sports market but this was greatly affected by lock downs which happened more in the winter months then spring and summer. The tourism sector has been an area that has also been helping drive demand with an increase across all age groups were sports is seen as an important part of any holiday in the Central European region. As more people pursue outdoor sports activities in central Europe therefore demand increases for products and equipment, more money is spent on outdoor sporting goods in this order first apparel then footwear, camping accessories (such as cooking products) backpacks, tents, climbing equipment and sleeping bags. In terms of increase spending on outdoor sporting equipment 3 Central European countries were in the top four in the EU for 2021 Czech experience the biggest growth followed by Hungary then Italy and Poland in fourth placeSimilar growth in the Outdoor Sporting goods market is expected in 2022, with the war in Ukraine only increasing the demand with, sleeping bags, tents, sports active wear, footwear, camping stoves or first aid kits are needed by the army as much as by the people who sometimes have to survive for weeks or months in bunkers or metro stations.
