Exploring Poland’s Thriving Bicycle Sector: A Key Player in Central Eastern Europe's Cycling Industry

Poland's bicycle sector has emerged as a significant force in Central Eastern Europe (CEE), characterized by robust production and export capabilities. With more than 2,000 domestic companies engaged in the production of bicycles and components, Poland produces approximately one million bicycles annually. Boasting growth rates of around 15% year-on-year, Poland has secured its position as a key player in the European bicycle market.
In 2021, Poland ranked fifth in bicycle production in Europe, contributing nearly 1.2 million units to the European Union’s collective production of 13.5 million bicycles. According to Eurostat data, bicycle production in the EU grew by 11% that year, underscoring the growing demand for bicycles across the continent, with Poland playing a significant role in meeting that demand.
Import and Export Dynamics
The bicycle industry's import and export activities also demonstrate promising growth. In 2021, the EU exported bicycles worth €921 million to non-EU countries while importing bicycles valued at €1.896 billion. Notably, the export of non-standard bicycles grew by 16%, and imports increased by 17% during this period. Electric bicycles have seen a significant surge, with exports outside the EU rising by 15% and imports jumping by an impressive 37% compared to 2020.
Promoting the Polish Bike Sector
Recognizing the sector’s growth potential, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) has been actively promoting the Polish bicycle industry. Since 2023, PAIH’s Foreign Trade Office in Amsterdam has been showcasing Polish bicycle manufacturers and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) into the sector. In February 2024, PAIH organized the Polish National Pavilion at the B2B Business to Bikes Festival in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, where a wide range of innovative Polish products was presented.
Companies such as Bike Café, Delibike, EcoBike, Loca Bikes, Seedia, and Storm Bikes participated in the event, displaying products ranging from gravel and cargo bikes to electric bicycles and smart urban mobility solutions. This event highlighted Poland’s commitment to advancing its bicycle industry and underscored the country’s role in the evolving European mobility market.
PAIH also promoted its industry catalog, Ride in Style: Polish Prime Bike Manufacturers, showcasing the expertise and innovation of Polish bicycle producers.
Poland's Position in the European Bicycle Market
Poland’s participation in international events like the B2B Business to Bikes Festival emphasizes its position as a key player in the European bicycle market, with strong potential for further development. The cycling sector continues to demonstrate resilience, innovation, and growth both domestically and internationally. With a focus on sustainability and electric mobility, Poland is well-positioned to capitalize on growing trends in the global bicycle market, further solidifying its role as a leader in Central Eastern Europe.
By fostering international partnerships, attracting investment, and showcasing innovation, Poland’s bicycle sector is poised to remain a dynamic contributor to the European cycling industry.
