Amazon’s €77 Billion Investment Fuels Growth and Sustainability in Germany
2024-11-26 source ownOver the past 25 years, Amazon has established a significant presence in Germany, making transformative contributions to the economy, society, and the environment. Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than €77 billion in Germany, creating tens of thousands of jobs, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and advancing sustainable initiatives.
Massive Investments Boost Economy and Job Creation
Between 2010 and 2023, Amazon allocated over €77 billion to expand its operations in Germany, with €12 billion invested in 2023 alone. This funding supported new logistics centers, infrastructure, and operating expenses. Economic consultancy Keystone estimates that Amazon contributed €8 billion to Germany’s GDP in 2023, totaling over €50 billion since 2010.
Amazon is also a significant employer, with plans to create 40,000 permanent jobs in Germany by the end of 2024. Current locations, including Erfurt, Horn-Bad Meinberg, Dummerstorf, and Großenkneten, provide employment opportunities with competitive salaries starting at €15 gross per hour, along with benefits such as company pensions, a free Germany ticket, and professional training. Between 2010 and 2023, Amazon paid over €16 billion in salaries and social benefits.
Leading the Charge in Sustainable Logistics
Amazon is driving innovation in logistics with a strong focus on sustainability. In 2023, the company deployed over 1,200 electric delivery vehicles, completing approximately 50 million emission-free package deliveries. Amazon has pledged an additional €400 million to further develop sustainable transport solutions in the coming years.
Supporting German SMEs and Global Market Expansion
Amazon’s platform empowers around 47,500 German SMEs to reach customers worldwide. In 2023 alone, SMEs using the platform generated €5.5 billion in export revenue, with 80% of their sales coming from international markets. Over 750 million products have been sold globally through the Amazon Marketplace, driving growth and enabling businesses to thrive.
Commitment to Social Impact
Beyond economic contributions, Amazon invests in the communities where it operates. In 2023, the company supported over 850 charitable organizations and educational initiatives across more than 100 locations in Germany. These efforts include donations and volunteer programs to strengthen local communities.
Amazon’s Vision for Germany’s Future
As Amazon continues to invest in infrastructure, jobs, and sustainability, it remains a critical player in Germany’s economic and social landscape. With plans to expand further and deepen its commitment to sustainable practices, Amazon is setting a benchmark for corporate responsibility and innovation.
