Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic received a welcome boost this week after Switzerland announced that they would be increasing their support. In addition to this, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that they will be providing a €4.5 million contribution via their Small Business Initiative (SBI).

Loans and direct investments will be available through the planned projects as well as business advice via international experts and consultants. This advice could prove invaluable for companies attempting to growth through innovation and increased competitiveness.

EBRD Vice President, Alain Pilloux, was in attendance for the signing of the agreement as was the Swiss State Secretary, Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch. The agreement was signed in London, at the EBRD Headquarters, and is yet another sign of the direction EBRD want to maintain.
