Gym-goers in Germany on the rise once more

With the newest figures being released, it is clear to see that the exercise industry is only going up as gym visitors topped 3 million in 2015. It is thought that the biggest 10 German gym companies saw a 10% increase in registrations when compared to the year before. This figure does count registrations alone and not the amount of visits but it is still positive signs for all.

With 1.2 million and 40% of those registrations, McFit remains as the biggest player in this particular market. Despite having over a third of the market share, McFit has been forced to reduce their prices in recent months as a result in the increase of competition which has been great news for customers but no so good for the company’s revenue. Of course, as per normal, the busiest time of year was just after New Year where registrations increased by nearly 20% for some companies.

McFit has been somewhat of a surprise over the last 12 months as their prices have come down; they have also introduced ‘High5’, a more basic program offered for under €10 a month that is thought to have been designed as a direct result of FitX’s €15 deal. It was the latter, however, that posted the best growth for the year after building 15 new gyms so they now have a total of 35. Clever Fit, Fitness King and Easyfitness also saw an increase in sales of at least 20% each.
