Poland Sets Sights on Hosting Olympic Games in 2040 or 2044

Poland has officially announced its ambition to host the Olympic Games in either 2040 or 2044, marking a historic step for a nation that has never hosted the Olympics before. Prime Minister Donald Tusk shared this exciting development, dedicating the vision to today's younger generation, stating, "I dedicate this decision to the 10, 12, and 15-year-olds of today."
The country has previously sought to host the Winter Olympics, placing bids for the 2006 and 2022 Games without success. Tusk explained that after preliminary discussions and commitments from the International Olympic Committee, Poland is now considering 2040 or 2044 as realistic targets.
Poland’s interest in hosting major sporting events has grown in recent years. In 2023, it hosted the European Games and co-hosted the UEFA European Championship in 2012 with Ukraine. In addition, President Andrzej Duda previously expressed his intention to submit a bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics, signaling a long-term vision for Poland's role in international sports.
Poland’s bid would face competition from Germany, which is also planning a bid for Berlin to host the 2040 Olympics. With a growing legacy of hosting international events, Poland’s Olympic aspirations highlight its readiness to become a premier destination for the world’s top athletes.
