Poland enters the running for 2019 European Athletic Indoor Championships

Poland, in particular Torun, has entered the bidding process for the European Athletic Indoor Championships set to be held in 2019 after successfully handing over their documents before the cut-off date. Minsk (Belarus), Glasgow (Scotland) and Apeldoorn (Netherlands) have already submitted their bids with Torun rounding off the four contenders.
Karel Pilny, Marcel Wakim, Bernadette Brun and Celia Mendez make up the Evaluation commission which will visit the city, as well as the other three options, between the months of February and March. The committee will then file a report to the European Athletics Council who will then vote based on the findings. This vote will take place on the 23rd April at a meeting to be held in Amsterdam after the four candidates make a presentation on why they should be chosen.
Glasgow is the only city that has made it this far in the process that has held the event previously, with that event taking place in 1990. Netherlands have held the event before in 1989, though this was in a different city. Katowice played hosts in the 1970s for Poland while Belarus remains as the only country not to have held the event at all.
The next European Athletics Indoor Championships will take place in Belgrade, Serbia.
