Putin Supports Russia’s Bid to Hold 2027 Rugby World Cup

2020-08-17 source own
The Russian Rugby Federation recently made a bit to host the 2027 Rugby World Cup, a measure that has now received the personal stamp of approval from President Vladimir Putin.

Though the official bidding process doesn’t start until February of 2021, the Federation has already established a committee to prepare both an application and presentation to World Cup leaders, who will make a decision sometime around May 2022.

This move puts Russia in direct competition with Australia, a strong favorite to get the nomination. However, no other countries have yet thrown their hats into the ring for 2027.

It is the Federation’s hope that Russia’s status as an up-and-coming supporter of the sport will give it a distinct advantage, particularly considering World Rugby’s strong dedication to furthering the popularity of the sport.
