Bosch eBike Systems Projects Sales Increase for 2020

The e-bike market has been posting record sales in many countries, which is expected to have a major impact on the performance of Germany-based Bosch eBike Systems.
The e-bike market has been posting record sales in many countries, which is expected to have a major impact on the performance of Germany-based Bosch eBike Systems. According to CEO Claus Fleischer, who spoke at a sneak preview for their new 2021 model, the company hopes to match their sales figures for 2019, but may actually surpass them.

“The pandemic has had consequences for the bicycle industry as a whole,” Fleischer said, referencing how 2020 was particularly promising before the lockdown hit. As the situation has eased, however, sales have been booming. In fact, many Germany dealers were sold out of products for most of June and July.

Since COVID heavily stressed the need of individual mobility, more people have been and are projected to consider e-bikes as their main mode of transport.

Bosch Acquires Cobi

For some time, there has been rumours swirling about the possible takeover of Cobi by Bosch eBike Systems.
For some time, there has been rumours swirling about the possible takeover of Cobi by Bosch eBike Systems. This week, the deal has been finalised after first being announced in September. Claus Fleischer, Business Manager at Bosch eBike Systems, has said “Cobi’s expertise, technology and experience are perfect ingredients for developing future mobility solutions.”

Due to an agreement between both parties, we don’t quite know the purchase price but Cobi is now a fully-fledged subsidiary of Bosch. For Cobi, there won’t be too many changes immediately with the production to continue as it is, the workforce to remain, and the headquarters set to stay in Frankfurt am Main.

Varying between travel mode tour and turbo, the brand new eMTB mode has now officially replaced the eMountain bike sport model and boasts Performance Line CX. With the contribution of the rider, this can be strengthened by up to 300% thanks to the 75Nm maximum torque. Additionally, the progressive motor support will adjust depending on the pressure applied to the pedal which means that it personalises the experience for each rider.

Without the need to shift gears, optimum performance can be found in quick time and it continues to adapt depending on terrain which makes it enjoyable when riding up steep slopes. Not only is riding now more natural, it ensures top performance on the trail.

Bosch contract for German and Austria motor associations

Yellow Angels in Germany to use eBikes
The OAMTC of Austria and the ADAC of Germany have both decided to use Bosch power systems for their eBikes over the coming period. These companies provide assistance on the roadside for cars, bicycles and motorcycles and the two neighbours are apparently in agreement over the use of the Bosch drive systems. The use of eBikes has spread further than the OAMTC in Austria though as some police officers are now using the mode of transport in Vienna.

Yellow Angels in Germany to use eBikes

The Yellow Angels of ADAC in Vienna are well used to using eBikes now and the experience and results have been largely positive; as a result, teams in Berlin and Stuttgart are set to follow suit. The two locations in Germany have been kitted out with Bosch Performance models in order to provide a more efficient, flexible and speedy service to road-users.

The hydraulic brake system allows its user to carry up to 70kg of tools and they also carry tablets to enable them to connect to the database whenever and wherever they go. With these benefits in tow, it’s not hard to see why they were so successful in Vienna and the results in Germany are likely to be similar.

According to the results in Vienna, the team members on eBikes were able to get the vehicle up and running again 90% of the time. They were also able to reach the troubled car faster because they could navigate traffic easier, could park in little space and even use the cycle paths provided. This has led to a second season of eBikes for the Yellow Angels as well as an introduction of the bikes to the Austrian police. This is said to give the police a huge advantage as the bikes are power assisted and if they need to quickly go off-track, the electronic mountain bikes will allow them to do just this.

Representative of Bosch eBike Systems, Tamara Winograd, has said “eBikes open up unforeseen opportunities for smart mobility, especially in urban areas. The fact that eBikes now assist the Yellow Angels with their customer service and even power the police on duty is indicative of the wide-ranging uses to which this technology can be put.”

eMountain Biking

The dynamics of eMountain Biking are constantly changing and the amount of electrical assistance is improving year after year.

The dynamics of eMountain Biking are constantly changing and the amount of electrical assistance is improving year after year. The new Bosch eBike systems eMountain Bike video shows just how diverse the product really is as eMountain Bikers can be seen in a number of different landscapes.

Professional eMountain Biker Stefan Schlie said “With an eBike, the right technique is important for maintaining the flow on the ascent. Only those who have mastered the technique can use the eclectrical assistance to achieve a flow that is incredible cycling fun.”

On Bosch’s new microsite, you can find various information as well as eMountain Biking clips. Despite technique being vital, trail etiquette is also seen as one of the most important factors as Stefan Schlie goes on to explain. “Respectful behaviour between mountain bikers, eBikers and hikers in harmony with nature is important. Combined with the right eMountain Bike cycling technique it is addictive.”
